Special Focus on Catheter Placement and Development of a
Robust Acute Pain and Nerve Block Program

The 10 Ultrasound-Guided Blocks Every Anesthesiologist Must Know

With CMS plans to reduce Medicare and Medicaid payments to hospitals with poor pain control scores (as reflected by patient responses in the HCAHPS survey), it is imperative that anesthesia providers proactively improve their pain management services.

The Stamford School of Regional Anesthesia ultrasound guided seminar seeks to meet the need for high quality training in the management of acute pain by teaching participants how to perform nerve blocks within the context of a catheter program.

We will focus on the use of ultrasound for performing regional nerve blocks and placing catheters. We will also address strategies to launch a successful ambulatory nerve block catheter program.

Educational Objectives

  • Understand the principles of ultrasound imaging.
  • Define the common steps in performing an ultrasound guided nerve block.
  • Understand the basics of ultrasound guided continuous perineural catheters, including indications and proper techniques.
  • Integrate ultrasound guided nerve blocks into your clinical practice.
  • Understand the important role of an ambulatory catheter program, including the risks and benefits and the key steps involved in organizing a robust acute pain nerve block/catheter program.

SSRA designates this live activity for a maximum of 8 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. The Stamford Hospital is accredited by the Connecticut state medical society to sponsor continuing medical education for physicians.

Each participant will be awarded a certificate of attendance showing Category 1 credits earned in the course. Many attendees will find this useful for submission to credentialing boards, managed care organizations and accreditation bodies.
